ALEM Associates, established in 1989, is a small research company in the field of radiation detection. The main focus of ALEM's research is concentrated on ceramic scintillating materials. The main source of funding is provided by the US government through its SBIR programs (DOE, NIH) .

Currently, there are following specific areas under development:

• Transparent optical ceramic (TOC:Eu), containing europium.
• TOC:Eu for CT applications.
• LSO ceramic.
• Afterglow free cesium iodide.
• Completely new materials.
